Obituary - Agnes Steele

AGNES ISABELLA STEELE (nee McLAUGHLIN)
May 12, 1924 - September 30, 2008


Lovingly remembered, Agnes Isabella Steele passed away peacefully while surrounded by her family at Scarborough General Hospital on September 30, 2008. Her kind and warm heart will be missed by her family and the many friends she made during her 84 years of life.

Predeceased by her beloved husband Thomas Steele, Agnes will be dearly missed by her sister Elizabeth (Betty) McLaughlin, and her four children: Dianne and husband Peter Schwalm, Christine and husband Bob Cowan, Patrice and fiance Bruce Gillham, Michael Steele. Grandmother of Amie and husband Geoff Kee, Lisa and husband Patrick Melanson, Meghan and husband Cameron Christie, Jennifer and Amanda Steele, Jamie, Mary Beth and Emily Schwalm, and Caitlyn Cowan. Great-grandmother of Evan and Sara Kee and Noah and Easton Melanson. Agnes was born in Toronto and resided in Thornhill for 28 years before moving to Uxbridge in 1979.

A very religious woman, Agnes was a dedicated member of St. Luke's parish in Thornhill, the Sacred Heart parish in Uxbridge, and most recently St. Margaret's parish in Toronto. Agnes spent 25 years of her life working in the Bursary Office at Brebeuf College in North York. Once retired, Agnes volunteered at the Uxbridge Cottage Hospital and enjoyed needlepoint in the peacefulness of her farm on Feasby Road in Uxbridge. Due to medical reasons, Agnes moved back to Toronto to reside with her sister, Betty.

The family will receive friends for visitation on Thursday, October 2, 2008 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. and on Friday, October 3, 2008 from 2:00 - 4:00 and 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the Low and Low Funeral Home, 23 Main Street South, Uxbridge (905-852-3073). Funeral Mass will be held at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church, 70 Toronto Street, Uxbridge (905-852-6944) on Saturday, October 4, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. As expressions of sympathy, donations to The Steele Family Foundation will be warmly accepted.
